HANDPICKED CONVERSATIONS

Handpicked Conversations is a monthly support circle for moms who homeschool or are considering homeschooling. It is a safe space to connect, share, listen, and reflect on our goals and intentions as mothers and home educators. It is non-religious and inclusive of all belief systems, parenting styles, and homeschool styles. What works for some may not work for others, we aim to honor that and maintain a safe space for all.

UPCOMING EVENTS

HP - CM Book Club | Principle 5 + 6

Principles 5a & 6: "Therefore, we are limited to three educational
instruments – [the first is] the atmosphere of environment...
When we say that “education is an atmosphere,” we do not mean a child
should be isolated in what may be called a ‘child environment’ especially
adapted and prepared, but that we should take into account the
educational value of his natural home atmosphere, both as regards
persons and things, and should let him live freely among his proper
conditions. It stultifies a child to bring down his world to the child’s level."

Required Reading:

• For the Children's Sake pp. 69-75 (just the "Education is an Atmosphere"
subsection)
Towards a Philosophy of Education (Vol. 6), Ch. 6 Three Instruments of Education -- only read "1. Education is anAtmosphere"

At this month’s HPC we’re diving into our curricula, activities, printables and more! Bring your supplies and anything you’d like to have laminated, cut, or organized. Let’s get this school year started on the right foot!

We’re Back!

t’s back! Handpicked Conversations was started to welcome new and veteran homeschoolers to a group of support where we can cover topics like;

• The struggles of homeschooling and motherhood
• The best kind of curriculum to use
• Teaching/Learning Styles
• How to support our kids (and be kind to ourselves too!)
• Parenting, marriage, etc…
• and so so much more!

Support for Teaching at Home

Join us for a special online conversation about Teaching at Home with Allison Serrao and Ashlee Reeves from The Handpicked Conversation. Both Ashlee and Allison have been homeschooling since 2015 and founded The Handpicked Conversations in 2018 to create a safe space of connection, support, and information for families dealing with difficult circumstances that led them to the world of homeschooling. The Handpicked Education has hosted monthly meetings on subjects like Post Partum Depression, Anxiety and Depression, NonViolent Parenting, Parental Rights and how to support our families and our children through homeschooling.

With the state calling closures of all CA schools, many families find themselves thrown into finding their own way to education in the home. This can be overwhelming, intimidating, and become a daunting task when not knowing where to start. At this month's HP Conversations we will discuss some ways we can support each other and answer your questions. We can't wait to meet you!

***This event will be held online through Zoom. Join via Computer or Join via Phone. Zoom Meeting Details will be emailed to you upon RSVP'ing through the Eventbrite link!
